PUBLIC COMPLAINT ALERT: ZIK GBEMRE SPEAKS ON THE URGENT NEED FOR GOVERNOR OKOWA TO CALL HIS TASK FORCE TO ORDER…

… TO REVERSE THEIR SEALING/SHUT DOWN OF EDJEBA SHELL MAIN GATES IN WARRI OVER SUPPOSED GROUND RENT.

This is to draw the attention of the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and relevant Government Authorities to urgently call to order his supposed Task Force said to be under the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, that recently Sealed off/shut down the two main gates leading to former Shell Edjeba Warri, which is now being occupied by ND Western/NPDC, Heritage Energy, other private oil companies and staff  Quarters over a supposed GROUND RENT with court orders.

It should be considered a great disservice to Delta State to have such a Task Force going about the State and using obnoxious Court Orders to seal off/shutdown places of business and peoples abode over a supposed ground rent. Why should the Delta State Government encourage this barbaric act of chasing away oil companies from the Delta state that are here to add value and improve on the economy of the State? 

By allowing this to thrive, the Delta Government is DELIBERATELY CHASING AWAY BUSINESSES AND PROSPECTIVE INVESTORS FROM WARRI. Why should we be using our own hands to chase away petty and big businesses out of Warri? It simply does not make sense.

It is appalling that, while this is allowed to go on in Delta State, our neighbors, Rivers State and its Governor, Nyesom Wike, is busy giving incentives to business owners and prospective investors to invest and expand their businesses in Rivers State.

Yet, Governor Okowa boys are busy driving away existing business owners and prospective investors. First it was the so-called ‘Deve’, now they have decided to upgrade by hiding under the umbrella of State Government Agencies to obtain outrageous Court Orders so as to legitimize their evil acts of extortion, obstruction and swindling of business owners over fabricated levies/taxes in the name of ground rents.

We also wonder the sort of Judges that would grant such Court Orders to seal/shutdown places of business and living quarters in the name of a supposed ground rent. The State Judges should not undermine the interest of the State when delivering/issuing such obnoxious Court Orders that will only end up creating hardships for the people as they drive away businesses and prospective investors from Warri. The same Warri that used to be the business hub in the South-South, and it’s yet to recover from Shell (SPDC) exit.

I advise Governor Okowa to warn his boys, and have them to immediately unseal and reopen the said Two main Gates which they had unjustly sealed. Governor Okowa should call his Revenue drive people to order, and concentrate on good governance. Rather than scare away businesses with frivolous demands.

What is the difference between tenement rate and ground rent? Are these people not doing ‘double taxation’ What is Okowa’s Government doing with all these illegal collections of levies, ground rents? 

Again, Governor Okowa should promptly direct his said agents to immediately open/unseal the two main gates of former Shell Edjeba Office in Warri. If the stated oil companies should decide to leave/relocate from Warri to another State, a lot of people will loose jobs. This will also adversely affect the economy of the State.

We urge that this complaint should be given the prompt attention it deserves.
