The Federal Government has urged the Airline Operators of Nigeria to exercise restraint over plans to suspend flight operations and increase airfares following a sharp rise in aviation fuel costs.
In a letter dated April 16, 2026, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed concerns over the increase in Jet A1 fuel from ā¦900 per litre in February to ā¦3,300 per litre.

He appealed to airlines to avoid immediate fare hikes, warning that such actions could place additional burden on Nigerians and reduce access to air travel.
The minister also cautioned against any planned flight suspension, noting it could disrupt economic activities and weaken public confidence in the aviation sector.

Keyamo disclosed that a high level emergency meeting has been scheduled for April 22, 2026, in Abuja to address the situation and explore sustainable solutions.
