The executive Governor of Enugu state Peter Mbah has today flagged off the construction of New Enugu City roads made up of 17km dual carriageway and feeder roads, 40km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway, and the construction/reconstruction of 71 urban roads in Enugu capital city.
The 71 urban roads would be simultaneously executed and delivered before the end of December. We have already secured the funds, therefore won’t entertain delays from contractors.
In a bid to provide the best quality of roads, we shall closely monitor the construction process to ensure that agreed standards are met, and projects executed within the stipulated timelines.
He also assured that, the roads will be well paved and there will be no open drainages with streetlights fully functional.
The project which he disclosed will be handled by China Communication Construction Company, CCCC would rub shoulders with any great city in the world and we will have a functional New Enugu City between now and the next 24 months.
And the New City will be fully equipped with a dedicated power project, a central sewage system, high speed internet needed in any modern smart city.
The first phase of the project would cover 26 square kilometres comprising the Happy Island, the Vitality Bay, and the Innovation Park in line with the purposes the New City is to serve.
While the 40km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway road is going to be a major gateway to the North Central and will open up our rural areas.
Gov. Mbah in his remark said, “In unlocking the rural economy, we’ll create special economic zones and ensure that there are access roads to farmlands.
“My administration is set to construct 10,000km of roads in the next eight years to open the space for investors and make life better for Ndi Enugu. We are determined to restore Enugu to its number one position in Nigeria and beyond.
“We have just begun and by God’s grace, will exceed expectations.
“Tomorrow is here!”
