Petrol Tanker Overturns on Bus in Port Harcourt, Explosion Averted as NMDPRA, Police, Fire Service Swiftly Intervene.

A major tragedy was averted yesterday 25th October 2025 Saturday in Port Harcourt following an accident involving a truck loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which overturned on a commercial bus along the Aba Road axis, near Leventis Bus Stop by First Bank.
The incident, which occurred in the evening hours of the day, caused panic among motorists and passersby, as the spillage of petrol from the fallen tanker posed a serious risk of fire or explosion.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the passengers’ bus, though the affected vehicle sustained significant damage.
Officials of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the Rivers State and federal fire services, promptly arrived at the scene to secure the area from disaster and restore normalcy.

Speaking to our reporter, the South-South Coordinator of NMDPRA, Engr. Victor Ohwodiasa Ojiyovwi, said the authority was on ground to ensure safety and prevent members of the public from scooping the spilled PMS.
“Our priority is the protection of lives and property. We are here with the police, the state and federal fire services to ensure that no one goes near the scene to scoop fuel. All measures are being taken to prevent an explosion,” Engr. Ojiyovwi stated.
He assured residents that the NMDPRA remains vigilant in monitoring petroleum product transportation to forestall such incidents and mitigate risks to the public.
Vehicular movement along Aba Road was temporarily halted as security operatives cordoned off the area, while efforts were made to remove the truck and clear the spilled fuel to allow free flow of traffic.
