Peace Walk: Rivers State Police Commissioner Urges Rotary Clubs In PH To Remain Vanguards of Peace

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police Emeka Nwonyi has urged Rotary Clubs in the state to continue to be vanguards of peace.

He made the appeal when the Nigeria Peace Corps in partnership with seventeen Rotary and Rotaract Clubs, Universal Federation of Peace, Relief International Africa and the Rotary Nigeria National Peace Building and Conflict Prevention staged a Peace Walk to the State Police Head quarters to commemorate the World Peace Day.

CP Emeka Nwonyi however commended the Rotary, Rotaract Clubs in Port Harcourt for their sustainable and human capacity support given to the police through projects execution.

He however said the Fire of peace is burning everywhere in Rivers State especially with the Launch of Operation Zero Crime Initiatives.

“The movement is grass root: there must be peace in Rivers State. The fire of security, safety of lives and property, and peace is burning everywhere in the state. We identify with you and thank you for being one of the vanguards of peace to restoring Rivers State to a better environment to a veritable investment in Nigeria. We thank you Rotary clubs; we have always known you as one of the land mark organizations globally in trying to restore service to humanity and peace. I thank for being there for us providing logistics to the Police in the state.”

On his part the State Commandant of the Peace Corps Nigeria Dr Michael Obiora said the State Police’s Zero Crime Initiative will bring sustainable and lasting peace to the state. “we have come here to also felicitate with you on this day and also appreciate and partner with you in your zero crime initiative.”

 

Coordinating leader of the seventeen Rotary clubs who took part in the Peace Walk, Kris Ugochukwu-Oguzie while presenting customized tee shirts as gift to the Rivers state Police Commissioner along side with the State Coordinator of the Rotary Nigeria National Peace building and Conflict Prevention Committee, Rivers State Chapter, Alabo Austin Bob-Manuel said “the Rotary clubs in Rivers State will raise its peace drive and campaign across it’s catchment areas to maintain existing peace and foster more development in the state.

 

On her part, initiator of the Peace Walk Project and Assistant Peace Coordinator, Rotary Nigeria National Peace building and Conflict Prevention Committee, Rivers State Chapter, Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie said the committee will “influence the optimal function of state institutions and create an environment that nurtures communities and supports enterprise by activating positive Peace in Nigeria”.

 

Arinze Akupue Rivers State Coordinator of the Universal Federation of Peace and Issac Green, State Coordinator of Relief International Africa also spoke on the theme of the 2023 World Peace day “Action For Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals”.

 

The Rotary Club partners include, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom, Creek View, South, City Valley, Seaport, GRA, Cosmopolitan, Metropolitan, Spring Gardens, Orbit, Gateway, Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, Atlantic City, New City, Esara City and the Rotary Club of Onne.

 

Other Rotaract clubs who participated in the Peace walk include RAC PH Rebisi Kingdom, Gateway, Mgbuoba, Spring garden, Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt GRA, Iauoe, West field, Uniport, Silver valley, Abuloma, and Rotaract Club of Bayview.
