The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has appealed to Nigerians to vote for the main opposition party in the 2023 general elections and experience a return of prosperity, security and unity in the country.
Atiku stated this during the presidential campaign flag-off held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday, under the chairmanship of Governor Emmanuel Udom, adding that the ruling party left the country worse than it met it in 2015.
The presidential campaign flag-off was well attended by the party leaders including the vice presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT), Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Umar Fintiri of Adamawa, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, members of the National Working Committee, PDP lawmakers and a host of others.
He said, “When PDP came to power in 1999, we found Nigeria in a state of poverty, hunger, insecurity, and lack of education. We lifted Nigeria from the bottom to the top. We became the economic capital.
“When Nigeria said that they wanted change, they voted for change in 2015, but what we are seeing today is poverty, insecurity, lack of jobs and our children can no longer go to school.
“We created a good platform, our campaign is to rescue Nigeria from hunger, rescue Nigeria from poverty, and insecurity and bring back the unity that we require in this country.
“I want to appeal to all Nigerians to vote for the PDP. If you vote for PDP, you will see a return to prosperity, you will see a return to unity, and you will see a return to security. There will be no more hunger and there will be security,” he added.
The presidential candidate who commended Udom for the good work that he is doing in the state said, “Nigeria wants to be like Akwa Ibom because since 1999 you have not changed parties and you can see the development that is taking place in Akwa Ibom.
“You can see the prosperity taking place in Akwa Ibom, you can see the security which is available in Akwa Ibom. We will rescue Nigeria. We would like to be like Akwa Ibom. We want to dedicate the launching of this campaign to the achievement of Akwa Ibom State PDP in good governance.” Atiku said.
