Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the Oyo State Persons Living with Disability (Amendment) Bill, 2022 into Law.

The passage of the bill was sequel to the presentation of the report presented by the Chairman of House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Wumi Oladeji.

The report was presented on the floor of the House on Thursday.

Oladeji, who represents Ogbomoso North State Constituency, said that the law has made provision for the establishment of an agency for persons living with disabilities.

She added that the agency will be under the supervision of the state governor.

Oladeji, while speaking further, said that the law has provided for recruitment of 50 percent of the members of staff agency to be persons living with disabilities.

The law, when signed by the governor, will make it possible for the reservation of special parking lots and spaces inside the bus and public transport.

This will make it possible for persons living with disabilities to live an easier life.

Persons living with disabilities include those with intellectual disabilities, people with vision impairment, hearing impairment, albinos, persons on wheelchairs and physically challenged.

Persons with disabilities belonged to the vulnerable group who need more psychosocial support more than other people.

DAILY POST reports that over 3 million people live with disabilities according to 2006 population census.

Reports have however shown that over 25 million people live with disabilities in Nigeria as of today.
