Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed Prof. James Bola Olaleye as the Special Adviser on Land, eGIS, and Survey. The appointment will take effect from July 1, 2024, as announced by Mr Yinka Oyebode, the Governor’s Media Adviser.
Prof. Olaleye, an accomplished professor in Surveying Engineering, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He earned his Bachelor’s degree with First Class honors from the University of Lagos in 1981, followed by a Master’s degree in 1984, and a PhD from the University of Brunswick, Canada, in 1992.
Starting as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Lagos in 1982, Prof. Olaleye steadily rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2015. During his tenure, he held key positions such as Sub Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Head of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics, retiring in December 2023.
Prof. Olaleye is recognized internationally for his expertise in Digital Mapping, Hydrography, and Geomatics, specializing in resource mapping, GPS technology, and advanced survey methods, particularly in coastal areas. His contributions were honored with the Best Paper Publication Award by the American Society for Photogrammetry in 1994.
Governor Oyebanji commended Prof. Olaleye on his appointment and encouraged him to leverage his extensive experience to support the state’s initiatives in land administration, urban renewal projects, and environmental safety.
