Motorcycle Riders Association Otherwise Known as Okada Riders Ebonyi state chapter has protested arbitrary extortion and Unlawful arrest of members by the operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC during the weekend in Abakaliki the state Capital.
The angry protesters who moved to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Crops, NSCDC, Ebonyi State Command demanded for the immediate release of their members and workers who were arrested and detained unlawfully for alleged sales of illegal tickets in the state.
Chairman of the Association, Comrade Ekuma Nicholas said the state Board of Internal Revenue Service alleged that the arrested members were selling illegal IGR tickets.adding members knew nothing about illegal collection and urged the Board to consider reversal of the Contract to hand it over to their members to avoid further suspicion.
Ekuma further, alleged that the Association got the wind that the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue service has concluded plans to mandate all okada Riders in Ebonyi State to Cue into the state E-ticket policy.
He called on Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state to come to their aid noting Okada riders are the most vulnerable among other segments of the society.
In their separate remarks: Chairman Okada Riders Ebonyi and Abakaliki LGA, Chapters, Mr Mike Aja Mr. Emmanuel Nkwede expressed optimism.
