The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps the regulatory body for private guard security operatives with other sister federal security agencies has harped on the need for PGC to remain focus as they compliment federal government efforts in securing the citizens especially as the nation approaches the 2023 general elections.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC Dr Abubakar Audi Ahmed PhD mni represented by the Assistant Commandant General(PGC) Esiegwu Ferdinand Chukwudi at a Stake holders meeting organise by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in collaboration with the Association of Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria ALPSPN with the theme: Rebuilding Public Confidence In Private Security Services In Nigeria, Says it pays to build confidence in private security operators. The federal government through the regulatory supervisory functions to ensure that the companies follows international best practices in carrying out their duties as well as adhere to the laid down principles on the rules of engagement in rendering their services as stipulated by the by the federal government. He further stated that the provision of security to the citizens is the primary responsibilities of the government.
On his part, the State Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun said that the Country been constantly playing with the issue of security untill recent time. The quest to protect it citizens gave rise to involving nationals with training in private security operations to work together with it’s regular security agencies to ensure the protection for all.
The Commandant noted that Security is every body business and the government security agencies Cannot do it alone. The private security guard are saddled with alot of responsibilities in the developed world.
The national president of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria Mr Chris Adigwe says that the Private Guard Company are determined to be professional in the discharge of their duties as mandated by the federal government. The heads of the security agencies from the Nigeria Army, the Nigeria Police, the DSS, the Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps spoke on the mode and method of recruitment, training, salary, background and orientation of the private guard to be thoroughly considered during recruitment.
The Head of Department of the PGC in the NSCDC in Delta State DCC Anyiwo Dennis called on the PGC to operate with in the laws establishing them as many have been found wanting in the past due to the person’s recruited. They were charged to do more in providing security and intelligent information to security agencies as the 2023 general election approaches.
The State Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practioner of Nigeria Prof Emmanue Odikaesieme say that the PGC plays critical roles in the security of the Nation and should be supported in all ramificaion by all the security agencies and even the federal government.
In his message, the representative of the secretary to the State Government Patrick Ukah, commended the NSCDC and the ALPSPN for organising the all important summit for private security at this critical security challenging moment of the country. He charged all participants to put to practice all that was learnt in the summit in their day to day operations. Good will messages was also given by all the service Commander’s of the various security agencies present and the Executives of the ALPSPN.
The highlights of the occasion was the paper presentations by DCC Anyiwo Dennis speaking on the regulatory roles of the NSCDC over the PGC being paper 1. Bishop Dr Duke Akpososo who took paper II, Spoke on the Roles of The Private Guard Personnel in Crime Prevention.
On a final note, paper III was taken by Chief Dr Ignatius Ogodogun who spoke on the Challenges of the Private Guard Industry in Nigeria.
