The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has enrolled and issued National Identification Numbers to 59,786 inmates across correctional centres in the country.
A statement by Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, indictates that the initiative, in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service, is part of efforts to promote inclusivity in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement adds that 74% of inmates nationwide have now been enrolled, with the remaining expected to be captured in the ongoing exercise.
The Commission also announces plans to begin ward-level enrollment across Nigeria, aiming to bring the National Identity System closer to the grassroots.
Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirms the agency’s commitment to working with partners to ensure every Nigerian and legal resident gets a NIN.
