NGO HOLDS CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR STAFF OF NASARAWA MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Mbegir Humanitarian Initiative, has held a one-day Expanded Breast and Cervical Cancer Sensitisation Programme for Staff of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry in Lafia on Wednesday, the massive campaign focused on general Health Issues, Breast and Cervical Cancers, Causes, Preventive and or Curative Means, and Sexually Transmitted Infections, STIs.

Participants were engaged in discussion/question-and-answer sessions on the subject matter, where further causes of Cancer were disclosed and alternative preventive measures proffered.

Director of Administration and Supplies of the Ministry, Mustapha Isa, who represented the Permanent Secretary at the Programme commended the NGO for reaching out to the Organisation, stating that the awareness and knowledge acquired were helpful, calling on Staff to take it seriously as health is wealth.

 

Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ubah Musa, offered the vote-of-thanks on behalf of the Ministry.

 

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Asheson Ene, Mbegir Humanitarian Initiative is a Non-profit Organisation that is targeted at reaching the Sustainable Development Goal of Health for everyone.

 

She noted that her NGO is reaching out to persons affected by Cancer and create sensitisation programmes to create awareness about the deadly disease.

Asheson added that with the “Save The Next Breast By Telling The Next Woman About Breast Cancer” campaign, her Organisation intends to reach out to all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) of Government in Nasarawa State and beyond.

 

Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissues.

 

It is predominantly caused by smoking, exposure to radiation, viruses, Canceer-causing chemicals called Carcinogens, obesity, hormones, chronic inflammation and a lack of exercise.

Mbegir Humanitarian Initiative is a Nasarawa State-based feminine Organization that engages in advancing the cause of women in tracking the socio-cultural problems affecting them, particularly women-relatedhealth issues.
