NGE Holds National Convention, Elects New Officers

The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, holds its national biennial convention today in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

 

The theme of the event is “Post 2023 Election: Promoting Professionalism for Enhancement of Democracy and Good Governance.”

The event has as its Special Guest of Honour, Vice President Kashim Shettima, while Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State is the Host.

 

The Father of the Day is former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Segun Osoba, while the chairman of the convention is Dr. Tony Onyima.

 

The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Chido Benedict Nwakama.

 

During the convention, new officers will be elected to run the affairs of the NGE for the next two years.

 

Already, no fewer than 13 editors have indicated interest to contest for the different offices.

 

Mr. Bolaji Adebiyi of Western Post and Mr Eze Anaba of Vanguard Newspaper are vying for the post of the President of the guild.

 

Other positions being contested for are those of the Secretary-General; Social Secretary and Standing Committees (East and West), among others.

 

Elections will not hold for the offices of the vice president in the North and West because they are being returned unopposed.
