The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy from January 2, 2026, citing rising security concerns and the need to protect lives and property.
In a statement, the Force explained that the decision followed a review of emerging security threats linked to the use of vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.
-According to the Police, such vehicles have increasingly been exploited by criminal elements to conceal identities while carrying out crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offences.
The Force clarified that there was never a court order restraining enforcement of the law on tinted glass usage. However, enforcement was earlier suspended to allow motorists adequate time to regularise their documentation and complete the permit registration process without pressure.
With recent trends showing increased criminal abuse of the suspension, the Police described the resumption of enforcement as necessary and urgent to safeguard communities nationwide.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the exercise would be carried out professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with the law.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to public safety, the rule of law, and continued collaboration with stakeholders to keep the country secure.
Motorists have been advised to ensure their vehicles meet legal requirements and to obtain valid tinted glass permits through approved channels to avoid inconvenience during enforcement.
