Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has resigned with immediate effect, following sharp criticism from the club’s major shareholder, Dermot Desmond.
The Northern Irishman’s departure comes after a 3-1 defeat to Hearts, which left Celtic eight points adrift of the Edinburgh club in the league standings.

According to Desmond, Rodgers decided to step down due to a “toxic atmosphere” that he admitted had been “created by his own actions.”
Rodgers guided Celtic to consecutive league titles and two domestic trebles across his two spells with the club.

His second stint began in June 2023 and now ends abruptly amid growing tension and disappointing form.
His resignation has already fueled speculation about potential successors, with former manager Ange Postecoglou among the names being linked with a return to Parkhead.
