The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to enhance electricity access across the Niger Delta. The agreement, signed at the REA headquarters in Abuja, underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration and accelerate sustainable development in the region.

Speaking at the event, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, described the MoU as a strategic commitment aligned with the Commission’s vision to “light up the Niger Delta” and expand distributed energy access. He noted that beyond a formal agreement, the partnership reflects a shared responsibility to deliver reliable power that will drive economic growth, improve social services, and uplift communities across the nine Niger Delta states.

In his remarks, REA Managing Director, Dr Abba Abubakar Aliyu, commended the NDDC for the collaboration, describing it as a natural alliance between two complementary interventionist agencies. He emphasised that expanding access to sustainable electricity is critical to unlocking the region’s economic potential and improving the quality of life for its people.
