NCC Warns Consumers Against E-Fraud

The Nigerian Communications Commission on Friday expressed its commitment to reach all categories of telecommunication consumers, with the launch of a consumer-centred outreach programme tagged, ‘Shine your eyes, No fall mugu’, which literally translates to, ‘Be alert, don’t be a victim of fraudsters’.

Speaking at the event, Mr Efosa Idehen, Director, Consumer Affairs, NCC, represented by Clement Omife, Head, Consumer Protection and Advocacy, NCC said, “One of the critical mandates of the NCC is the protection and promotion of the interests of consumers, which is domiciled with the Consumer Affairs Bureau of the Commission.

“The Commission collaborates with consumers’ advocacy groups and relevant stakeholders in creating awareness and promoting initiatives like,”Shine your eyes, No fall mugu”.

The two-day programme started with a road show on Thursday and featured local artistes and comedians who performed to entertain people, create awareness and sensitise telecom consumers about how cybercriminals use telecom platforms to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

He also warned telecom consumers to be careful not to disclose their personalized numbers like the BVN, ATM numbers among others as such could be used to defraud them.
