NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON CORPS MEMBER BY AGUNECHEMBA VIGILANTE GROUP IN ANAMBRA STATE 

The Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission Tony Ojukwu, has condemned the disturbing viral video showing operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group physically assaulting a youth corps member, Ms. Jennifer Edema Elohor.

Reacting to the video, Tony Ojukwu described the incident as a gross violation of human dignity and a clear breach of the provisions of Nigeria’s Anti-Torture Act, 2017, which expressly prohibits and criminalizes torture, cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment or punishment under any Circumstance.

He further pleaded with the Inspector General of Police and Anambra state Government to provide protection for the Youth Corps member and Encouraged Ms Elohor to present herself to Facilitate prosecution of the Case by the Police.
