NAFDAC Launches Improved Med Safety App to Boost Reporting of Fake Drugs, Adverse Reactions…..details
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched an improved Med Safety App designed to enable healthcare professionals and the public to quickly, easily, and securely report suspected substandard or falsified (SF) medical products as well as adverse drug reactions (ADR).
NAFDAC said the upgraded digital platform is part of efforts to strengthen post-marketing surveillance and improve medicine safety monitoring across Nigeria.

The agency noted that substandard and falsified medicines remain a major public health threat, contributing to treatment failure, prolonged illness, antimicrobial resistance, disability, and preventable deaths.
The improved app features a more user-friendly interface, simplified reporting process, enhanced data management, better feedback mechanisms, and the ability for users to upload photos and product details to support investigations.
Users can report suspicious medicines such as those with altered expiry dates, unusual packaging, missing or questionable registration numbers, poor quality, or unexpected treatment failure.

It also allows reporting of adverse drug reactions like allergic responses, unexpected side effects, or harmful reactions after using medicines.
NAFDAC explained that reports submitted through the platform will help detect unsafe products early, prevent harm, support investigations, strengthen surveillance systems, improve regulatory decisions, and remove dangerous products from circulation.
The agency urged healthcare workers, pharmacists, medical practitioners, community health workers, and members of the public to actively use the app and remain vigilant. It also advised consumers to buy medicines only from authorized and reputable sources.
NAFDAC emphasized that collective public participation through timely reporting is critical in reducing the circulation of substandard and falsified medicines and ensuring safer healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
