Make Yourself Economically Vibrant, Gov Sule Urges Corps Members

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to make themselves economically vibrant in the communities they are posted to.

 

Sule stated this at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I Corps members deployed to the state at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC Permanent orientation camp in Keffi local government area on Tuesday.

Our Correspondent reports that Sule was represented at the occasion by Mr Yakubu Kwanta, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development.

 

The governor congratulated the corps members for achieving a hitch free orientation exercise and urged them to carry the torch of inspiration as they step into the next phase of the service year.

 

He informed the corps members that the state is agrarian in nature, blessed with fertile lands suitable for cultivation of different arable and cash crops for both domestic consumption and export.

 

He added that the state is similarly blessed with not less than 90 percent of the mineral resources found in Nigeria hence the call to corps to maximize the potentials of the state by making themselves economically vibrant in communities they will be posted to.

 

“As you will be posted to various communities, therefore, it is my hope and expectation that you will appreciate the abundant resources in our various localities by utilizing the opportunity and make yourself economically vibrant,” he said.

 

He pointed out that his administration accords priority to youth development and empowerment as a prerequisite for national growth and progress due to the belief that youths constitute the most productive segment of the Nigeria’s population.

 

“It behooves on us, therefore, to create the needed enabling environment for the youth to realize their potentials for the good of our society.

 

“It is for this reason that government continue to create employment opportunities for youths through skill acquisition and vocational training programmes in the state,” he said.

 

He then urged the corps members to shun any act of crime and criminality that will dent their image and capable of jeopardizing their chances of realizing their dreams in the future.

 

“In the same vein, I urge you to establish good relationship with your host communities and identify community development projects that will have direct bearing on the people,” he added.

 

He also called on corps employers to accept corps members posted to their organizations and make full use of their services.

 

“I equally urge you to provide enabling environment for the corps members in order to achieve optimal productivity for the benefit of all,” he said.

 

In her remarks, Mrs Salamatu Muhammad, Coordinator of the scheme in the state also congratulated the 2201 corps members for coordinating themselves during the three weeks orientation exercise.

 

“Over the past three weeks, the corps members have participated in drills, lectures, value reorientation sports, leadership training and Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme which equiped them with skills for self-reliance,” she said.

 

Muhammad urged the corps members to approach the one year national service with humility and selflessness.

 

“Be positive ambassadors of your families, the NYSC and our nation. Embrace postings, avoid seeking reassignments and strive to impact your host communities meaningfully,” she said.

 

She appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for his unwavering support and also expressed delight with the progress made on the construction of the new Multi-purpose hall at the orientation camp. END
