The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic management plan to facilitate Phase I of the reconstruction and expansion of Ogunnusi Road in the Ikeja Local Government Area.

The project, to be executed by the Federal Ministry of Works, will cover the stretch from Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop to Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound).

According to the state government, the reconstruction forms part of a broader plan to upgrade the 9.0-kilometre dual carriage corridor between Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop and Mobil Filling Station Junction, covering both inbound and outbound lanes.

The entire project (Phases I and II) is scheduled to run from Friday, March 6, 2026, through Thursday, January 6, 2028.

Phase I, spanning 4.5 kilometres from Ojodu-Berger inward to Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound), will commence on March 6, 2026, and is expected to be completed by February 6, 2027. During this period, there will be no vehicular access within the designated work zone.

To ease movement, motorists heading toward Ijaye/Agege via Ogunnusi Road will be diverted to a contraflow on the Ojodu-Berger-bound carriageway for approximately one kilometre before rejoining the main carriageway.

Alternatively, drivers may use Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo Way to connect Otunba Jobifele Way, link Obafemi Awolowo Way, and proceed through Lateef Jakande Road to their destinations.

Articulated vehicle and truck drivers from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway heading to Agege have been advised to divert through Ojota/Maryland, link Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, access Kodesoh Street, connect Oba Akran Avenue to Guinness Roundabout, and proceed through Ogba Road to Pen Cinema.

Motorists travelling from Ijaye/Agege toward Ojodu-Berger will experience through traffic, but will form a contraflow near the work zone for about one kilometre before regaining full access after the construction area.

The government stated that emergency tow vehicles will be strategically stationed along the corridor to ensure a quick response to breakdowns and incidents throughout the construction period.

Motorists have been urged to remain patient, obey traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure smooth execution of the project, which aims to improve the travel experience along the corridor.
