The Lagos State Government has said the removal of trucks parked indiscriminately along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway has resumed.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said this in a statement on Sunday.

Hamzat who was represented by Rasaq Amodu, was quoted to have said this during a stakeholders’ meeting themed, ‘Building together,’ in Apapa.

He said, “The major seaport in Apapa has made it vulnerable to high vehicular density which includes articulated trucks and tankers. “In an attempt to tackle these enormous challenges, the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been continuously partnering with the Nigerian Ports Authority and other stakeholders in the maritime sector, to get these heavy articulated vehicles off the road permanently around Apapa axis and improve traffic along the corridor. This removal resumed last Friday.”

The council chairman, Apapa Local Government Area, Mrs Idowu Sebanjo, said the meeting was held for stakeholders to reposition the area into a modern port city.

“The goal of this meeting is to reposition Apapa into a 21st-century modern port city. As identified stakeholders, you would agree with me that this council has suffered a gross reputational loss due to its many challenges, chiefly the incessant traffic menace and its perpetual poor environmental measures.

“This has led to an exodus of people and massive vacation of both homes and businesses in Apapa and the council has been lacking in a critical modern development with dwindling opportunities for innovative activities between the port and the community,” she said.
