The Lagos State Government has said it remains committed to a vision of a sustainable and business-friendly environment while ensuring effective and appropriate control of illegal conversion of Land Usage.

The Honourable Commissioner for the Waterfront, Hon. Yacoob Alebiosu made this known during a two-day monitoring and enforcement exercise by an inspection team of the Ministry at the Lekki Foreshore Scheme in Eti-Osa Local Government Development Area recently.

According to Alebiosu, illegal unsafe, non-conforming developments coupled with the activities of unscrupulous developers continue to pose a lot of challenges to the State Government.

He noted, however, that all hands must be on deck to identify and expose any development or activity that is deemed illegal, unethical and non-conforming across the State.

Furthermore, the Commissioner said the enforcement drive was to ensure compliance with all regulations regarding waterfront developments along the corridor while violators are sanctioned.

Speaking further, he said the enforcement was necessary for the furtherance of the Government’s vision of a sustainable and business-friendly environment and to ensure effective and appropriate control of the illegal conversion of land use while bringing contraveners to compliance.

In the course of the inspection, an illegal dredging activity was identified and two Chinese nationals involved in the exercise were promptly arrested. They were found to be in contravention of stipulated provisions of the State, which would not be condoned.

The inspection team was led by the Commissioner, Hon. Yacoob Alebiosu and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ololade Aina in the Ministry.
