The Ministry of Establishments and Training recently organised a retreat for Union Leaders and Stakeholders in the Labour industry in the State. The three-day retreat with the theme, “The Role of Industrial Relations in Government”, was held at Ogbara in Ogun State.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo expressed appreciation to Mr. Governor for approving the retreat to underscore his deep understanding of the contributions of the labour unions to the State’s development agenda and the recognition that a thriving economy is built on the foundation of a well-functioning labour-government relationship.
Ayantayo averred that the gathering was also a testament to the commitment of the State Government to nurturing positive labour-government relations, fostering understanding and building a stronger tie for the collective progress of the State.
While appreciating labour unions for the industrial peace and harmony experienced in the state in the last few years, he said the theme of the retreat underlined the significance of the partnership between the Labour Unions and the State Government, stressing that it was an acknowledgement that labour and government hold the keys to a prosperous and harmonious future for the State.
Earlier in her welcome remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun said there was a need to recognise that relaxation and enjoyment are not just indulgences but necessities to fostering creativity, building connections and recharging of spirits.
She stated that the environment of the retreat provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation and encouraged participants to find moments of joy and camaraderie throughout the time they were going to spend at the retreat together.
Those present at the event included the Chairman, House Committee on Establishments, Training, Pensions and Public Service, Honourable Oladele Ajayi; the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola and the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, (Lagos State Branch) Comrade Funmilayo Agnes Sessi.
Others were the Chairman, Trade Union Congress, (Lagos State Branch), Comrade Gbenga Ekundayo and the Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Lagos State, Comrade Segun Balogun among others.
