The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has commissioned the Agency’s Mainland Zonal Office which is designed to serve as a central hub for enforcing environmental compliance in the Mainland region.
Addressing the public during the commissioning, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Service, Mr. Omobolaji Gaji explained that the new Zonal office reaffirms the government’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection.
Mr. Gaji further emphasised that the commissioning underscores LASEPA’s dedication to environmental protection and sustainable development. It is expected to bolster the agency’s capacity to promptly address environmental infractions and educate the public on best environmental conservation practices.
Speaking on the significance of the centre, the Permanent Secretary stated that besides its regulatory functions, the Mainland Zonal Office will serve as a hub for community engagement and environmental education initiatives.
The Director of Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement, LASEPA, Mr. Kayode Bello, while highlighting the pivotal role of the Mainland Zonal Office, pointed out that the office will promote strict adherence to environmental regulations as it will be the focal point for monitoring and enforcing environmental compliance in areas including Ebute Metta, Shomolu, Bariga, Yaba and Ojulegba.
According to him, “This signifies a vital advancement in our mission to promote sustainable development. This advanced infrastructure underscores LASEPA’s commitment to equipping its team with the necessary resources for their critical roles as it is furnished with state-of-the-art facilities, providing dedicated workspaces for LASEPA personnel”.
“LASEPA envisions conducting workshops, seminars and awareness campaigns to empower residents and businesses in adopting environmentally responsible practices”, he revealed.
This milestone reaffirms LASEPA’s enduring dedication to environmental preservation and sustainable progress within Lagos State. The Mainland Zonal Office is poised to play a pivotal role in promptly addressing environmental infractions and promoting best practices for conservation.
