LASEMA RESCUES EIGHT FROM COLLAPSED BUILDING AT IGA IDUNGANRAN STREET

The Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) has rescued eight people from a collapsed building which occurred on Thursday at 15, Iga Idunganran, Street, Lagos Island.

 

A statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said the Agency responded to distress calls in the early hours of Thursday. On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a four-storey residential building had collapsed.

According to him, a preliminary investigation carried out at the scene of the incident revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was due to an ongoing renovation on the collapsed building which had been previously marked by LASBCA for evacuation.

 

He said, “A total of 10 people were trapped under the rubble, eight of them – seven adult males and one female – have been rescued and treated by the Pre-Hospital Care Unit of the Agency before they were transferred to the Iga Idunganran Primary Health Care Centre for more medical treatment”.

 

While emphasising that operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining two victims of the collapsed building, he stated that the Shark team, LRU Paramedics alongside LASBCA officials, LNSC officials, LASPPPA officials, LASAMBUS crew, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and Nigeria Police Force were responders are still at the incident scene for more search and rescue operations.
