The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, officially declared open the 2025 edition of Design Week Lagos (DWL), a premier creative industry event dedicated to celebrating innovation, craftsmanship, and design excellence in Nigeria and across Africa.
The opening ceremony took place at the Livespot Entertainment Centre, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos, and was attended by designers, artists, entrepreneurs, investors, and key industry stakeholders.

The four-day event, organised in collaboration with the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, aims to showcase and promote locally made designs across various sectors, including interior décor, fashion, architecture, technology, and product design.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka emphasised that the Lagos State Government remains deeply committed to supporting platforms that nurture creativity and innovation, as they contribute significantly to job creation, youth empowerment, and the overall growth of the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to her, “Design Week Lagos serves as an important avenue for spotlighting the immense creative talents that exist in our State and across Nigeria. By supporting initiatives like this, we are reinforcing Lagos as the creative capital of Africa and ensuring that our designers have global visibility and economic opportunities.”
The Commissioner further noted that the State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, continues to prioritise the creative economy as a key driver of sustainable development through strategic partnerships, policy support, and investment in the arts and culture ecosystem.
Design Week Lagos 2025 features exhibitions, workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions designed to connect local designers with international audiences and investors. Participants are expected to gain exposure to emerging trends and innovative techniques that will elevate the standard of design practice in Nigeria.
The event, which runs from October 22 to 26, will also highlight Lagos’ vibrant design culture and reaffirm the State’s reputation as a hub of creativity, innovation, and artistic excellence.
