As the pilgrimage exercise for Lagos State pilgrims continues in the Holy Land, the Executive Secretary of the State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Florence Gbafe has disclosed that the pilgrims will spend three days and nights in the Kingdom of Jordan before moving to Israel for the continuation of the pilgrimage journey.
According to her, the three days and three nights will be filled with memorable experiences and exposure to interesting Christian sites within the Kingdom of Jordan.
She noted that throughout the stay of the pilgrims in the Kingdom of Jordan, Lagos State pilgrims will be visiting Gedara, a spiritual site connected with one of the miracles of Jesus usually referred to as the casting of the Demons or the Gadarene Swine.
On the third day in the Kingdom of Jordan, Gbafe added that the pilgrims would visit the Hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great from where John the Baptist was beheaded on the order of Herod Antipas after Salome’s fateful dance of the seven veils.
She listed other interesting places that the pilgrims will visit including Mount Nebo, a Serpentine Cross Sculpture symbolising the bronze serpent created by Moses in Numbers 21:49, and the Cross upon which Jesus was crucified in John 3:14, among other places.
While saying that the pilgrims will depart on the fourth day to Israel by the Allenby Bridge, Gbafe urged the pilgrims to note the spiritual significance of the holy sites that would be visited and also offer prayers for spiritual rejuvenation at the historical sites.
It should be noted that the Kingdom of Jordan is remarkable and significant to pilgrims for different reasons. Jordan is the site of the baptism of Jesus Christ, the Jordan River is the source of all holy water in Christianity and has for centuries attracted pilgrims from across the world.
