The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro has kicked off the 2023 edition of the HOS Games Competition at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Sports Arena, noting that the aim of the competition is to give public servants a sense of belonging and keep them fit in order to be able to carry out their duties effectively.
Agoro averred that only verified staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the State Government, who have also been certified fit medically and duly registered would be allowed to participate in the competition.
He also said the competition would help to promote comradeship among the various government bodies and foster good relationships as well as bring about healthy competition, adding that discovered talents would also be selected to represent Lagos at the State level since the games have been more competitive in recent years.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, said the State Government is happy that more agencies are participating in the competition, stressing that it is about sportsmanship, physical exercise and the wellbeing of the staff.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Mr. Richard Ogbe said measures have been put in place to ensure that only qualified staff take part in the Games, stressing that medical teams and security officers are available to ensure the safety of the players.
The Head of Technical Committee for the Competition, Mr. Ola Okunnu said the games were designed to engender and foster the spirit of sportsmanship in the State Public Service.
Okunnu, therefore, urged the players to play according to the rules of the game and avoid any act of indiscipline.
