History was made on Saturday as Nigeria hosted its first-ever Albinism Advocacy Pageant, a groundbreaking event dedicated to promoting inclusion, challenging discrimination, and empowering women with albinism to become leaders and advocates for their community.
The event, themed: “Beauty in Inclusivity,” took place at the Luxury Events Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, and drew an audience of stakeholders, advocates, and changemakers passionate about creating a more inclusive society.

Unlike traditional beauty pageants, the Albinism Advocacy Pageant focused on advocacy, leadership, and representation, rather than just physical appearance. Contestants were evaluated on their confidence, intelligence, creativity, and passion for driving positive change.
Speaking at the event, Misturah Abisola Owolabi, Founder and Creative Director of Misty Glam Company, emphasised the purpose behind the initiative.
“This pageant is not just about crowning a queen; it is about raising voices. Women with albinism have historically been underrepresented, and this platform is designed to spotlight them as changemakers, especially in media, fashion, beauty, and modelling industries”, she said.
Among the distinguished guests was Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), who served as a guest judge.
The high point of the evening was the crowning of the winner, Ms. Anita Chidiebube-Dike, the first Nigeria’s Albinism Advocacy Queen, expected to take on the role of community advocate and spokesperson for inclusion.
She will lead campaigns across the country to challenge stereotypes and educate the public about albinism.
The historic event marked a significant step towards representation and empowerment, sending a strong message that true beauty lies in diversity, strength, and purpose.
