Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy and fostering partnerships that connect Lagos with the global community.

The Governor made this commitment known at the K-Heritage Festival 2025, held on Friday, at Victoria Island, Lagos. He was represented at the colourful event by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka.
In his goodwill message, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for organising the festival and choosing Lagos as its host city, describing the State as the “cultural heartbeat of Africa where traditions from across the globe thrive and connect.”
The Governor highlighted the significance of the festival as a bridge linking Nigeria and Korea, noting that cultural exchange remains one of the most potent tools of diplomacy, capable of transcending borders and creating common ground.

“From the infectious beats of K-pop and the grace of traditional Korean dance to the stunning hanbok fashion and exquisite Korean cuisine, we are reminded that culture dissolves differences and paves the way for meaningful relationships,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu further emphasised the shared values of resilience, creativity, and innovation that unite Korea and Nigeria, stressing that these attributes continue to position both nations as global leaders in technology, entrepreneurship, and the creative industries.
He assured that Lagos, as Africa’s economic powerhouse and cultural hub, remains open to partnerships with Korea that will enrich the State’s cultural landscape, create opportunities for young people, and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The Governor expressed optimism that the K-Heritage Festival would become a cherished feature on Lagos’s cultural calendar, deepening appreciation for Korean heritage while reinforcing the State’s role as a platform for global cultural exchange.
On behalf of the government and people of Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu congratulated the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for the successful hosting of the event and reaffirmed Lagos’s readiness to continue fostering meaningful connections across cultures.
