Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has reiterated its determination to curb the Gender-Based Violence menace through behavioural mindset programmes by sensitising and training all relevant stakeholders.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi stated this at the “Men Wey Sabi” sensitisation programme organised by the Agency for residents of Ikorodu-Sabo Market, adding that the State Government, through its THEMES Plus Agenda, is scaling up advocacy and awareness for Gender inclusion.
The Executive Secretary, who spoke through the Head of Field Operations, Mrs. Oluwakemi Bello, stated this during the awareness programme, tagged: “Man Wey Sabi” at Sabo Market, Ikorodu, stressing that the objective of the campaign is to address Gender stereotypes in Lagos.
She reiterated that ending the SGBV scourge was a collective responsibility and that empowering women in society must be encouraged through illuminating the minds of the men, society, leaders, and residents to see the beauty of championing the gender equality course, for a peaceful society devoid of violence.
Vivour-Adeniyi asserted that the programme shines a light on men’s pivotal roles in ending domestic and sexual violence whilst also promoting partnership in marriages.
Alhaja Muinat Ojulari, the Iyaloja of Sabo market Ikorodu gave kudos to the Sanwo-Olu administration for ensuring that the society is conducive for both genders to thrive. She commended the Agency for the innovative programme and assured that the take-home was positively encouraging.
One of the high points of the advocacy was the Power Oil Nigeria Limited-sponsored cooking competition showcasing the culinary skills of the men. Mr. Akinshiku Akinwale won the cooking competition and expressed gratitude to the Agency for bringing the initiative to the sabo market.
