The Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye has lauded the efforts of the Women In Energy Network (WIEN), noting that the women group of professionals needs more atmosphere to thrive.

The Commissioner stated this on Monday during a courtesy visit to his office at Alausa, Ikeja, by the group, stating that the Ministry is taking proactive steps to enhance collaboration, empower and promote synergy with women in the energy sector.

Recognising the crucial role women play in driving innovation and sustainability, the Commissioner assured the women’s group that more doors or opportunities would be opened for them such that more females would develop an interest in the energy sector.

 

While emphasising the importance of inclusivity in shaping the future of the State’s energy sector, Ogunleye averred that there is need for a diverse perspectives and talents to address the challenges and opportunities in the evolving energy landscape.

As a way of integrating women fully into the energy sector, the Commissioner advocated the initiation of a series of events, workshops, and networking sessions, in addition to creating platforms for women professionals to connect, share insights, and contribute to the growth of the energy industry.

 

He used the opportunity of the visit to present the plans of the state government in the energy sector to WIEN and encouraged them to key in and be actively involved in the various initiatives of the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

 

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Ms. Mosunmola Shashore applauded WIEN for its strategic initiatives to position women in their rightful place.

 

The President of Women In Energy Network (WIEN), Mrs. Eyono Fatai-Williams appreciated the Commissioner for the opportunity given to the women in Energy, stating that WIEN believes in the competence of their members.

 

According to her, “This platform allows us to amplify the voices of inspiring women in the energy sector, sharing their stories, insights, experiences, and expertise”.
