In a move to honor the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most prominent Islamic scholars, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has officially renamed the Centre for Qur’anic Science at Kaduna State University (KASU) after the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The center will now be known as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Centre of Excellence for Qur’anic Sciences and Memorisation.
The announcement was made by the governor during the Mawlid Nabiyy (Maulid) celebration organized by Fityanul Islam in Zaria, Kaduna State, as contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa.

This development fulfills a promise Governor Sani made during a condolence visit to the family of the late scholar in Bauchi on December 15, 2025, shortly after Sheikh Dahiru’s passing.
Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a revered leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi, died on November 26/27, 2025, at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness. His death drew widespread national mourning, including from President Bola Tinubu, who also immortalized him by renaming the Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare, Bauchi State, as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University of Health Sciences.
During the condolence visit, Governor Sani had pledged to immortalize the late Sheikh’s contributions to Islamic scholarship, good governance, and peaceful coexistence despite the scholar hailing from Bauchi State recognizing his far-reaching influence across Nigeria, including in Kaduna.
In his remarks at the Maulid event, Governor Sani also commended Fityanul Islam for its dedication to peacebuilding and social cohesion, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive, people-centered governance that leaves no one behind.
