Following the outcome of the 2023 governorship election polls result, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Executive Committee in Igyorov Ward, Gboko Local Government Area, Benue State, has suspended the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, with immediate effect.
This suspension was contained in a letter signed by the ward chairman of Igyorov, Kashi Philip, and the excos.
According to the committee, the committee accused Ayu of failing to pay his annual dues, as required by the party constitution. Twelve of the seventeen members of the exco signed the documents approving his suspension. After a vote of no confidence, they suspended Ayu for anti-party activities.
In a statement, the party secretary in Igyorov ward, Banger Dooyum, said Ayu’s anti-party activities, along with his allies, contributed to the PDP’s loss in his ward and local government in the governorship election while reading a resolution which also claimed that the PDP chieftain did not vote in the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.
At the end, they insisted that the majority of Ayu’s closest allies worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), resulting in the PDP’s dismal performance in Igyorov Ward.
