The Federal Government has presently suspended its plan to eliminate fuel subsidies by June of this year.
This was announced on Thursday by Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Ahmed Zaniab, shortly after a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
In her statement, she stated that the NEC, which is comprised of State Governors has deliberated on the issue at length and came up with an idea which shows that it would be unwise to remove subsidies while the new administration is attempting to establish itself.
But suggest that the existing committee discussing the fuel subsidy issue should be expanded to allow more Nigerians to weigh in while emphasising the need for increased communication with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the petroleum marketers’ association, among others for better solution.
