Journalist and podcast host Joey Akan has asserted that Vector was right in saying that top rapper M.I sabotages rap artists.
Joey and M.I are locked in an online battle in the wake of American rapper, Jonathan Lyndale Kirk popularly known as DaBaby’s recent visit to Nigeria.
They are trading words on Twitter.
The argument started when Joey made a sarcastic tweet in reaction to DaBaby’s visit, mimicking an earlier complaint by M.I over his non-invitation to meet U.S. rapper Rick Ross when he came to Lagos earlier in the year.
“Why is Dababy not having one-on-one with local Nigerian rappers? No meet-and-greet? No hailings?,” Joey trolled on Twitter. “WE nEeD tHE CUltuRe to resPect Nigerian wrappers.”
You rappers should go and drag Davido na,” he added, referring to 30BG’s role in bringing Dababy to Nigeria. “Since entitlement is usually your first name.”
M.I then fired back: “You have a smaII mind.. so not sure you understand what false equivalency is. What’s d point of dis tweet? To insuIt rappers for wanting respect? I guess self respect would be an offensive idea to you. Insecure little Joey insuIting people to feel better. grow up
“Let it be known that @JoeyAkan is an enemy of Nigerian HipHop!
“A vile mind that continuously spits on our efforts and debases the Hiphop community!
“You are persona non grata and no longer welcome in the culture.
“And @JoeyAkan please know.. normally I am not on twitter during the day because of work.. but today is laundry day for me so I have some time.. for every gbos there will be a gbas…. idiot.”
More tirades thereafter flew in opposite directions between the two, where Joey accused M.I of losing the artistic impact and influence he had in the rap game, and now has to demand respect he presently does not deserve in an industry that “does not rate you”, because he is still stuck in 2011.
“I’ve stood you up 3 times M.I, when you wanted to use me to attack an artist, you ruined their career. I refused, and you’ve hated me for it. Leaking dirt on your artists to further damage their career.
“You know why I never attended those meetings? Because you’re evil,” Joey said in one of his tweets to the Chocolate City Music owner, who then dared him to release the messages and evidences he had to further support his claim.
He further called Joey to speak and sort things out over the phone like adults, to which the pop culture journalist ignored and came on Twitter to further respond that M.I should stop calling him and trash things out on Twitter.
After being unable to provide evidence to support his claims, Joey eventually withdrew his sword saying he had been begged by M.I’s family and friends on behalf of the rapper and so, would not be talking further on the case.
