Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has adopted a landmark resolution which seeks to reposition parliaments worldwide as the central drivers of post-conflict recovery by promoting national processes that deliver lasting peace.
Deputy speaker of Nigeria’s house of representatives, Benjamin Kalu, spearheaded the adoption of the resolution at the 152nd assembly of the union in Istanbul, where he served as co-rapporteur in the 12-member IPU steering committee.

The resolution emphasizes human security, preventive action, and people-centred approaches aimed at addressing the root causes of conflicts.
Benjamin Kalu says the resolution also encourages parliaments to redistribute national and international budgetary priorities in favour of peacebuilding and prevention mechanisms, as well as prioritize conflict-affected populations in reconstruction financing.
