The Lagos State Office of Internal Audit has expressed its willingness to harness the potential of Information Technology to promote efficiency and compliance in its internal control systems.

This commitment was reiterated during an interactive session of State Internal Auditors, themed: “Digital Transformation of Internal Control Systems: Harnessing IT for Efficiency and Compliance”, held at Martinos Events Centre, Ikeja.

 

Speaking at the maiden meeting and interactive session with Internal Auditors across the MDAs, on Wednesday, the Special Adviser, Office of Internal Audit, Dr. (Mrs.) Oyeyemi Ayoola, FCA, said the essence of the interactive session was to emphasise the need for constant improvement in the mode of operation of internal auditors in the State.

She said efficiency in the mode of operation of any profession must be driven by information technology, adding that with the THEMES Plus agenda of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, efforts are being made to transform all sectors digitally to function and operate seamlessly.

 

She added that Information Technology (IT) has made the world a global village where every sector and profession needs to embrace information technology to promote efficiency in their operations.

Dr. Ayoola said the mode of operation of the State Internal Auditors must be automated, adding that digital transformation is the key to development.

 

The Special Adviser added that the State Internal Auditors must know about information technology, saying most of the financial activities in the State are driven by Information Technology.

 

She, therefore, urged Internal Auditors to upgrade their skills in the area of digital technology for a smooth transition of the audit process and the changing of narratives around the roles and functions of Internal Auditors in Lagos State for better positioning.

 

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Internal Audit, Mrs. Kikelomo Dawodu said there cannot be progress without digitalisation, hence, there is a need for every sector to embark on Information Technology.

 

The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director of the Forensic and Investigation Department, Mrs. Moriliat Ganiyu, said Internal Auditors are at the centre of the State business process, it is therefore necessary for auditors to be abreast of the current realities across the globe and embrace required digital skills for the effective and efficient discharge of their roles for better performance.

 

One of the Internal Auditors at the interactive session, Mr. Rolland Agbontohoma acknowledged the commitment of the Special Adviser towards the digital transformation of the State’s internal audit, adding that the initiative will revolutionise the Audit process in Lagos State.
