Real Madrid have confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for approximately eight weeks after sustaining a muscle tear in his left quadriceps during Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Athletic Club.
The 26-year-old English right-back was substituted in the 55th minute at San Mamés after providing a cross-field assist for Kylian Mbappé’s opening goal. Moments later, while attempting another long pass, Alexander-Arnold pulled up clutching his left thigh and was replaced by Brahim Díaz.

Medical examinations on Thursday revealed a tear in the rectus anterior quadriceps, ruling him out until early February 2026. The injury means he will miss key fixtures, including the Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City and several LaLiga matches over the winter period.

This marks the second significant setback for Alexander-Arnold in his debut season at the Bernabéu, following a month-long absence earlier in the campaign due to a hamstring injury.
With Dani Carvajal also sidelined long-term, manager Xabi Alonso faces a mounting challenge at right-back and may rely on young defender Raúl Asencio or deploy Federico Valverde out of position to cover.
