The Lagos Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Jude Onouha, identified as the kingpin of a gang that disguised as security operatives to vandalize vehicles across estates in Lagos.

In a statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, on Saturday, September 20, the Command said the suspects gained entry into estates by wearing fake uniforms and carrying a Mercedes-Benz car jack modified to resemble a firearm.

According to the police, the gang deceived estate security under the guise of conducting checks, then targeted high-end vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs.

They systematically vandalized the vehicles, stealing vital components including brainboxes, side mirrors, tapping glasses, wiring systems, and control devices.

Recovered items included a Mercedes-Benz car jack and a face cap with the inscription Special Force, used to facilitate the disguise.

Onouha has reportedly confessed and is assisting with further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other gang members and accomplices.

The Command urged residents, particularly estate managers and security guards, to remain vigilant and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a security operative before granting access. They also advised close collaboration with local police divisions to confirm authenticity.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to strengthening community safety.
