HOW GOVERNOR SULE DECLARES 2023 NYSC ORIENTATION COURSE OPEN; ENJOINS CORPS MEMBERS TO ENJOY THE HOSPITALITY OF NASARAWA STATE

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has declared open, the three-week National Orientation Course for prospective National Youth Service Corps’ Members deployed to the State.

Represented by the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, the Governor congratulated the prospective Corps Members on a successful completion of their final  academic exams which qualified them to be enlisted into the Scheme for a compulsory one year service to their father land, urging them to take the Scheme seriously and avoid any acts that could tarnish their image or families.

“This is a very important aspect of every young graduate in Nigeria. So, you have to take the Course and other activities while in Camp seriously.

“Respect the Camp rules and ensure you partake in any activity you are assigned to do during the twenty-one days of your stay here and even during the service year proper.

“Shun vices capable of giving you or your family a bad name.”

While assuring of Government’s continuous support to the Scheme and personnel in the State, the Governor enjoined the Corps Members to take advantage of the alluring hospitality of Nasarawa State to explore their potentials.

 

“We are aware of the challenges facing the NYSC in the State. Suffice to say that works will soon commence on the 3,000 Capacity Multi-Purpose Hall in the Orientation Camp as plans have already been concluded on that.

“As a Government,  we are conscious of our statutory responsibility to your welfare, security, and general well-being, areas we do not take for granted.

“So, as long as you are in Nasarawa State, I implore you to enjoy our breathtaking hospitality, experience our diverse cultures, and also see areas you can contribute your quota towards the growth and development of the State.

 

“It’s on that I heartily welcome you to Nasarawa State, the Home of Solid Minerals.”

 

Nasarawa State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Abdullahi Ahmad Jikamshi, during his Introductory address, revealed that a total of 1,744 duly registered Corps Members deployed from the 36 States of the Federation and F.C.T., Abuja, comprising 632 men and 1,112 women, were sworn in, and will be partaking in this year’s Batch B, Stream 2 Orientation Programme.

 

He stated that the NYSC Orientation Course is one of the cardinal programmes of the fifty year-old Scheme aimed at preparing the Corps Members for the challenges of the service year.

 

“This programme is designed to give the Corps Members a better understanding of the objectives of the NYSC and acquaint them with their environment of service, the cultural, political and economic settings of the area.”

 

Jikamshi commended the continuous assistance of the Nasarawa State Government towards the Scheme, appealing for more in the Orientation Camp.

 

“Let me, on behalf of the Scheme, thank the Government of Nasarawa State under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, for the unalloyed support.

 

“It’s on record that Governor Abdullahi Sule made good his promises of providing enabling environment for Corps Members and Staff in the State, among others.

 

“The NYSC will continue to remember Your Excellency for your kind gesture towards the Scheme in the State.

 

“However, we appeal to the Government for the construction of a befitting 3,000 Capacity Multi-Purpose Hall for lectures and other programmes, and the refurbishing of additional Staff Hostels to accommodate Camp Officials during Orientation Courses.”

 

Earlier, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Her Lordship, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, represented by Justice Isah Kana, administered the Oath of Allegiance to the Corps Members, urging them to be law-abiding during and after their service year.

 

The event which was held at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Orientation Camp, Keffi, was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, among other notable personalities, mostly from the Military and Para-Military Agencies as well as Academic and Traditional Institutions in the State.
