Gabon has become the first African country to introduce a law banning anyone under the age of 16 from using or creating social media accounts.
Under the new rules, access is only permitted for educational purposes. Parents or legal guardians will also be held legally responsible for monitoring minors’ online activity.

The law is aimed at protecting young people from cyberbullying, harmful content, and misinformation online.
