Eight inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kaduna, have graduated from the National Open University of Nigeria.

 

The Command Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kaduna State, Zaki Emmanuel Mahmud, says the graduates comprise seven undergraduate degree holders and one inmate who earned a Master’s degree.

The statement notes that the graduation ceremony was held at the custodial centre, with the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Olufemi Peters, represented by a senior official, who commended the inmates for their resilience and commitment to education.

 

Representing the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, the Commandant of the Correctional Service Staff College, Kaduna, said the achievement aligns with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act on reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

 

The statement adds that the Kaduna State Command has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding educational opportunities for inmates as part of efforts to prepare them for productive reintegration into society.
