The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted $461,600 in undeclared cash from two passengers arriving at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and handed the suspects over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation.

According to the Commandās Public Relations Officer, CSC Tahir Balarabe, the suspects, a male and a female arrived in Kano from Dubai on 8 May 2026 aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
They initially declared $130,000 and $180,000 respectively, but a secondary baggage inspection uncovered an additional $151,600 concealed, bringing the total seized amount to $461,600.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, DC Usman Adamu, said the act contravened provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, noting that travellers are legally required to declare any cash above the statutory threshold.
He confirmed that the suspects, alongside the seized funds and travel documents, were formally transferred to the EFCC for prosecution in line with the law.
