HOW 10 POLITICAL PARTIES PARTICIPATED IN THE NIGER STATE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS 

Ten political parties are contesting for the positions of chairmen and councilors in the Local Government Elections in Niger State.

Seventy one candidates are vying for the Twenty five Chairmanship positions with six hundred and fifty-four candidates contesting for the two hundred and fifty-four councilor seats available.

Dauda Mohammed reports that though the process has been adjudged to be generally peaceful, most of the polling units did not open as scheduled by eight am, due to challenges in the distribution of electoral materials.

The chairman Niger State Independent Electoral Commission Jibril Imam, in a press briefing, revealed that more than ten thousand Ad hoc staff have been deployed to the twenty-five local government areas of the state.

The All Progressives Congress APC has twenty five Chairmanship candidates with all the Vice Chairmanship candidates being women.

While the People’s Democratic Party PDP has twenty-four candidates and Social Democratic Party SDP fielding fourteen candidates.

Results of the elections are expected to be announced after collation in the various local government areas.
