Two lawmakers in the House of Representatives, Adamu Tanko from Niger State and Husseini Mohammed Jallo from Kaduna State, have formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas announced their defection during Tuesday’s plenary, citing internal divisions within the PDP and alignment with APC’s ideology as reasons.

House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda however raised a point of order emphasizing the need for proper procedures and adherence to a Supreme Court ruling requiring a “complete” defection.
In the same vein, House Minority Whip Ali Isa urged the lawmakers to withdraw their defection letters or face legal action, stressing that the PDP remains a strong opposition party.
This latest development is part of a larger trend in the 10th House of Representatives, where more than ten opposition lawmakers have defected to the APC since inauguration of the 10th Assembly.
