… Describes It As Major Milestone In Lagos Digital Transformation
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the unveiling of Rack Centre’s new 12MW IT Load Data Centre, LGS2, as a significant leap toward achieving a digitally empowered economy for the State.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Data Centre in Oregun, Ikeja Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube, lauded the facility as a symbol of the state’s commitment to building a future-ready digital ecosystem capable of transforming Lagos into a global technology hub.
According to him, “It gives me immense pleasure to join you for the unveiling of this state-of-the-art data centre. In a world increasingly driven by data, we recognize the critical role that reliable, efficient and scalable data centres play in supporting businesses, enhancing services, and ultimately improving the quality of life for our citizens”.
The Governor noted that the LGS2 facility, which is hyperscale-ready and engineered with a low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), stands as a testament to innovation and sustainability. Its advanced cooling systems and planned integration of renewable energy reflect Lagos State’s environmental responsibility and future-focused development strategy.
Highlighting the broader economic implications, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the launch of the facility sets the stage for a wave of economic opportunities, adding that the data centre industry is a proven catalyst for growth, from job creation across various sectors to attracting global investors who see Lagos not just as a city, but as a hub of innovation and digital transformation.
He explained that LGS2 would significantly strengthen Lagos’ capabilities in big data management, cloud computing, and enterprise support, disclosing that startups and SMEs will now have access to the world-class infrastructure they need to scale and compete globally.
Reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s commitment, the Governor stated the State is investing in the right infrastructure and human capital – expanding fibre optic networks, promoting STEM education and boosting digital literacy and at the same time also training artisans from host communities to ensure inclusive economic participation and capacity building.
The Governor commended Rack Centre for its trailblazing work in the tech and infrastructure space, describing it as a celebration of vision, innovation and resilience.
He further remarked that the true impact of the LGS2 Data Centre would be measured not just in megawatts or server uptime but in the lives it touches and the communities it uplifts.
