Nov. 21, 2023. Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has urged 2023 Batch C Stream I corps members posted to the state to step down the training learnt during their three weeks orientation exercise to their host communities.
Sule stated this at the closing ceremony of the set’s orientation course held at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state on Tuesday.
Sule represented by Mallam Ja’afaru Ango, Nasarawa state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development expressed delight with the conduct of the corps members throughout the three weeks exercise.
“It is a thing of joy to see that the orientation exercise has produced service ready corps members who would selflessly support our development efforts in Nasarawa state,” he said.
He then urged them to not only put into use the training and skills acquired during the three weeks exercise but also step down the training and skills the people of their host communities especially the youths and adolescents in the communities.
“The effort will help them to develop a positive mindset and the self esteem needed to keep them off the streets and be gainfully engaged.
“Remember this I one of the many ways through which you can give back to the scheme and the nation,” he said.
The governor assured the Corps members of the friendly, peace-loving and hospitable nature of the people of the state and urged the corps members to feel free to relate with them as their fathers, mother’s, brothers and sisters.
He also assured them of his administration’s statutory responsibility to their welfare, security and general well-being, adding that their security and safety is guaranteed.
“Therefore I urge you to embrace your postings in good faith as they have been do e in line with the posting policies of the scheme and the felt needs of the state.
“Your postings towards the books and crannies of the state is geared towards achieving the objectives of the scheme and also towards bringing development to the grassroots,” he added.
In his welcome remarks, Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, Coordinator of the Scheme in the state also applauded the 1895 corps members for the successful completion of the orientation exercise.
He also revealed that since the commencement of the exercise till date, there has been no casualty recorded in any of the camp activities undertaken by the corps members and camp officials.
“The three weeks orientation course has equipped the corps members mentally and physically to enable them face the challenges of the service year.
“I am particularly happy to announce that since their arrival on camp these corps members have exhibited a great sense of maturity, discipline, and adaptability to camp life,” he said.
He then urged the corps members, as they begin the next phase of the service year, to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hardwork and resilience which they imbibed during the orientation exercise.
Jikamshi also admonished the corps members to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that will help to uplift the living standard of their host communities and also promote the relevance of the scheme as a catalyst for national development.
“I also encourage you to build on the skills acquired on camp through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme by availing yourself of opportunities for paost-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self reliance,” he added.
The Nasarawa state NYSC coordinator also called on corps employers to always accept corps members posted to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.
He sued the opportunity to appreciate the state governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule for his administration’s plans to begin works on building a 3000 capacity Multi-purpose hall at the orientation camp.
