GOV. SANWO-OLU ATTRIBUTES FAITH, UNITY TO LAGOS PROGRESS

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has emphasised that faith and unity are driving Lagos State’s continued progress and prosperity.

 

He stated this today at the 2025 Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Annual Inter-Denominational Divine Service (IDDS), held at The Apostolic Church, LAWNA Territorial Headquarters, Ketu.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Governor expressed his gratitude for the church’s steadfast prayers, emphasising that Lagos State remains prosperous and resilient due to the unwavering prayers of its people. He acknowledged the church’s invaluable role in advocating for moral values, fostering unity, and supporting social progress.

 

He said, “Lagos State thrives not only through governance but also through the spiritual support and moral fortitude provided by the faith communities. Our Government remains dedicated to fostering religious harmony, ethical leadership, and continued collaboration with faith communities to advance the state’s collective vision for growth and prosperity.

 

The IDDS is not just a gathering; it is a divine assembly where believers unite in faith and prayer to seek divine intervention for our land.”

 

Commenting on the theme of the service: ‘Total Restoration’, Sanwo-Olu said it resonated deeply with the collective aspirations of everyone that peace, security and greater opportunities shall be restored in abundance by the grace of God to Lagos and Nigeria.

 

According to him, Lagos is a state that never sleeps, yet it continues to flourish not by accident but by divine design. He commended Christian leaders for their dedication and called on attendees to embrace the assurance of divine restoration and remain steadfast in their faith assuring them that the best days of Lagos and Nigeria are ahead of us,” he declared.

 

In his remarks, the Convener of the service and Chairman, CAN Lagos State Chapter, His Lordship, The Right Reverend Steven Adegbite applauded the transformative works of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and for his support of the Christian community.

 

The Bishop also requested the construction of a pedestrian bridge to reduce accidents and deaths among people, especially worshipers at The Apostolic Church, Nigeria LAWMA Territorial Headquarters Convention Grounds along the Ibadan Expressway, Ketu. He acknowledged that Lagos State had always led excellently by example and must resolve all misgiving in the state legislature amicably. “God is in control of the Lagos House of Assembly and God will resolve the matter for us. We are not going to fight in Lagos.”

 

The Guest Preacher and Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Aba, represented by Bishop Oluyinka Akande, stressed the need to increase funding for the education and health sectors to reduce brain drain.

 

Among the dignitaries at the service were the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Comfort Adeleke; Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, was represented by Hon. Justice Morenike Obadina, while former Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Abiru represented his brother, Senator Tokunbo Abiru.

 

Others were the Special Advisers on Christian Religion Matters and Environment, Mr. Bukola Adeleke and Mr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu, respectively, as well as Christian leaders, including Revered Mother Esther Ajayi and Her Grace, Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholeye.
